Yarra Station Vineyard – Yarra Glen – Lower Yarra

These vines sit on a rolling, north facing slope of granite and grey clay soils that have ironstone running throughout.

Vintage

The 2021 growing season and harvest were a complete turnaround from the hardships of 2020.

It wasn’t without worries, as the return of the La Nina weather pattern brought back thoughts of 2011 and led to a wetter than average year. Thankfully, the rains were perfectly and evenly timed.

The mild season avoided major heat spikes and produced healthy canopies and strong vines that ripened plentiful fruit.

An exceptional vintage.

Picking Date – 25th February 2021  

Variety - 100% Pinot Noir                  Clone – MV6  

pH - 3.28                                              TA – 8.34 g/L                          Baume – 11.0

Hand harvested early in the morning.

The fruit was whole bunch pressed direct to old barriques where it fermented slowly and naturally on full solids. Malolactic ferment occurred in 70 % of the barrels.

The barriques were lees stirred four times over the three month maturation period without sulphur. They were then assembled in tank, allowed to settle and racked once with a small sulphur add prior to bottling. No fining or filtration.
